The SMIGS Community Softball League was created out of a commitment to preserve and grow softball in the City of Auburn. In 2026, when the City of Auburn faced a financial crisis and could no longer operate the long-standing city recreation softball league, SMIGS stepped up to the plate and partnered with the city to keep the league alive. Since taking over operations, the league has grown to include 20 men’s teams competing on Monday and Tuesday nights and 4 women’s teams playing on Wednesday nights. What started as a way to save local softball has quickly become a movement focused on rebuilding community involvement, improving the player experience, and creating new opportunities for athletes of all skill levels. With continued support from the community, SMIGS believes this is only the beginning of making a lasting impact on sports and recreation in Auburn.
